Chennai: DMK MP Kanimozhi asked Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai to apologise for ‘disrespecting’ Tamil Nadu’s state anthem at his party’s election campaign in Karnataka.

Annamalai and ruling DMK are at daggers drawn after the BJP leader previously brought out what he called ‘ DMK Files’ alleging corruption by DMK leadership.

Taking to Twitter Kaninozhi asked how Annamalai, who was not able to stop his party workers from degrading the anthem ‘Tamil Thai Vazthu’, could care about people of Tamil Nadu.

The incident she was referring to took place according to a viral video during a BJP election campaign event in Shivamogga on Thursday attended by Annamalai.

Senior BJP leader KS Eswarappa intervened to stop the state anthem of Tamil Nadu, ‘Tamil Thai Vazthu’ when it was played on the stage, instead to play the state anthem of Karnataka.

Countering Kanimozhi, Annamalai tweeted a news clip that reported the incident of not playing the national anthem after hoisting the national flag at an event attended by MK Stalin when he was the Opposition leader.

Annamalai asked the DMK leader: ‘Isn’t yours the history of removing the line "Kannadamung Kalitelungum Kavinmalayalamum Tuluvum" from the Tamil Thai state anthem and sowing the division of the state?’, according to NDTV.

The firebrand leader further said that his party’s only mission is to save Tamil people from DMK’s ‘cheap politics’.

Karnataka is seeing a pitched campaign between the BJP and the Opposition Congress ahead of the Assembly poll on May 10.
