text_fieldsChandigarh: Zile Singh, a 55-year-old marginal farmer, committed suicide by allegedly consuming a poisonous substance on Wednesday. Disappointed over the inconclusive fate of the farmers' protests against the three contentious farm laws passed by the Centre, Singh killed himself at a protest site in Jind district of Haryana.
He was survived by his wife and three children.
Singh was actively involved in serving food to farmers on the Khatkar toll plaza for several months. District BKU leader Azad Singh informed that he was alone at the protest site when he committed suicide at night. Farmers who arrived at the site in the morning found Singh unconscious. A bottle of poison was also recovered from there.
Farmers at the protest site also informed that Singh was under depression over the last few days over the fate of the protests.
