Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh acquitted in 2002 murder case
text_fieldsChandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday acquitted controversial Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in the murder case of former Dera manager Ranjit Singh, NDTV reported.
Ranjit Singh was shot dead in 2002 for his suspected roles in circulating an anonymous letter narrating the dera head’s sexual exploitation of women, according to The Times of India.
A CBI court convicted and sentenced Ram Rahim and four others to life imprisonment in 2021 in the case.
Subsequently, the 56-year-old approached the high court challenging his conviction in the case.
Dera chief is currently in jail having convicted of raping two sadhvis at the dera and is dong time in the murder case of journalist Ram Chander Prajapati,
Prajapati had reported extensively on the sexual assault allegations against Gurmeet Ram Rahim, according to the report.
