New Delhi: As birds go down like ninepins in several places here, authorities closed famous Sanjay Lake and four other parks to visitors Saturday.

Following bird deaths being reported amid the fears of avian flu, authorities didn't wait to act shutting parks including Hauz Khas and Dwarka sector 9 park among others.

All parks and the lake attract huge crowds every day, meaning allowing them to operate amid avian flu threat is risky.

Reports say at least 24 birds have been found dead in South Delhi's Jasola over three days.

In another incident authorities confirmed at least 10 ducks found dead at Sanjay Lake Saturday.

The Delhi Development Authority, which owns most parks in the city, is closely watching the developments.

Authorities have disinfected the areas where birds were found dead. Across India authorities are monitoring reports of avian flu.
