A school in South Delhi’s Sadiq Nagar was evacuated on Wednesday morning after the school administration received a bomb threat through email, the police said.

The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad along with the dog squad conducted checks on the premises for any explosive substances. But nothing suspicious has been found so far despite searching the premises twice, the police said.

According to the police, an email was sent to Indian Public School in Sadiq Nagar at 10:49 am, claiming that a bomb has been planted on its premises.

The school was evacuated as a precaution, they added.

“Information was shared telephonically by a person Brijesh from the Indian School, BRT Road regarding receipt of an email regarding bombs planted in school. The email was received today morning. The school has been evacuated and a thorough check is being done by bomb squad and AS check teams,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chandan Chowdhary said.

The incident spread panic among the parents after they received a message from the school asking them to pick their children up. “Dear Parents, On account of some unexpected security reasons, we are having to close school early. Kindly arrange to pick up your ward as per details…Front Gate…self pickup…Back gate van users. School will resume as usual tomorrow,” the message from the school said.

A threat email was sent to the same school in November 2022. The students were evacuated and the threat was found to be a hoax, the police said.

The sender of the email is unknown. Since the November hoax email was sent from Germany, the police are trying to ascertain from where the email originated. Further details are awaited.
