Former Delhi Congress councillor Ishrat Jahan

New Delhi: Former Delhi Congress councillor Ishrat Jahan, who was jailed under UAPA on charges of involvement in the Delhi riots, has filed a complaint citing the extensive torture she had to face in the jail. Jahan's husband Farhan Hashmi and sister Sarwar Jahan have come forward with the complaint.

According to "The Quint", Ishrat Jahan had told her husband and sister that her fellow inmates had physically and mentally abused her.

Jahan, who was lodged in Mandoli jail on UAPA charges, was allegedly beaten up by the fellow inmates who used to call her a terrorist, threatened for money and beat her up without even allowing her to do the morning prayers. According to the complaint, she was made to strip naked and her head was hit on the wall.

The court has sought an explanation from the jail authorities on the complaint filed by Ishrat Jahan that her life was in danger and that immediate action should be taken. Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat directed the authorities to take immediate action, including transferring her to another jail if necessary.

This is the second time a complaint has been filed that she is being tortured in jail. Jahan complained that she was on the verge of depression due to the physical abuse and insults and that she could no longer bear the brutal torture that had taken place within a month.
