New Delhi: The Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police has named Ashneer Grover, the co-founder of digital payments company BharatPe, in a First Information Report on embezzling crores of rupees.

The Delhi Police in its FIR included Ashneer Grover’s wife Madhuri Jain Grover, family members, and others for allegedly committing fraud, forgery, cheating and breach of trust, according to NDTV.

Following complaint by BharatPe in December in the wake of Ashneer Grover’s bitter feud with the company, the FIR on eight counts of criminal offences was registered on Wednesday.

BharatPe previously accused Ashneer Grover of stealing company money to lead ‘a flamboyant lifestyle’.

Grover has not yet responded to the charges, but he previously denied any wrong doing.

Grover, who later floated a fantasy sports app called CrickPe, earlier said that the only lavish things about his life is his dreams, and his ability to achieve them.

If Ashneer Grover and others are to be found guilty of criminal charges levelled against them, they could face life imprisonment, according to the report.

Promising all cooperation to investigation, BharatPe said that the FIR would help the probe agencies to delve deeper into the scandal and bring the accused to justice.

The allegations that Ashneer Grover and his family faces include the charge that they engaged ‘in sham transactions and embezzlement of ₹ 71.76 crore’.
