Delhi: Men harass, abuse, assault 2 women in public
text_fieldsNew Delhi: A shocking case of alleged public assault and harassment against women has emerged from Nehru Place, where a group of young men allegedly abused, attacked and humiliated women who had arrived at a tea stall early in the morning. The incident reportedly took place around 7 am on May 10 while crowds watched without intervening.
According to the complaint filed by the women, the trouble began when two men at the tea stall allegedly removed their shirts and created a disturbance. When the women questioned their behaviour, the men allegedly began making insulting and abusive remarks against them. The women later moved away to another place, but the group allegedly followed them. Soon, more men joined the confrontation.
The women accused the group of physically assaulting them, sexually harassing one of them and tearing their clothes in public. They also alleged that casteist and racist abuses were hurled at them and that one of the women was beaten with a bamboo stick while trying to escape. The victims further claimed that bystanders remained silent as the assault unfolded.
Police said a two-minute video recorded by the women captured several men verbally abusing them and attempting to stop the recording. One of the victims alleged that the accused had been stalking and harassing them for a long time and took advantage of the situation because her friends were not present that day. The women are reportedly from Bihar and Assam.
Police questioned eight people in connection with the case and later arrested four accused.
