New Delhi: In a bid to tackle rising pollution levels, the Delhi Transport Department has mandated the use of colour-coded stickers on vehicles in the National Capital Territory (NCT) to identify their fuel types.

This directive, aligned with the Supreme Court's August 2018 order and amendments to Rule 50 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, requires all vehicle owners to affix chromium-based hologram stickers on their windscreens. These stickers are designed to help enforcement officials quickly identify fuel types during road checks.

The mandate applies to all vehicles, both new and old. Vehicles registered on or after April 1, 2019, must comply at the time of purchase, while older vehicles must retrofit the stickers. Owners of older vehicles can visit their dealers for installation or use online booking facilities for home installation of High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) along with the stickers via the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) website or the Transport Department's portal.

The stickers will include details such as the vehicle's registration number, registering authority, laser-branded PIN, and engine and chassis numbers.

Non-compliance will result in penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act and Rules. The Transport Department has urged vehicle owners to act promptly to avoid prosecution and ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
