Delhi: A 40-year-old man and his newphew were shot dead outside their home in Shahdara in northeast Delhi while celebrating Diwali on Thursday night, The Free Press Journal reported.

Akash Sharma and his 10-year-old son, Krish, and nephew, Rishabh Sharma, were in merriment when two assailants arrived on a scooter shot at them.

It is reported that Krish, sustained injuries in the attack.

Footage showed the attackers were initially respectful even touching Akash’s feet, before opening firing on them.

Before the attack, one of the attackers got down from the scooter and started a conversation with them before pulling out a gun and opening fire on Akash.

One of the teenagers chased the attackers as they fled the scene.

The three were rushed to a hospital where Akash and Rishabh were declared dead, while Krish is currently undergoing treatment.

Shahdara Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Prashant Gautam reportedly said that police immediately responded to a PCR call around 8:30 pm regarding gunfire in Bihari Colony.

At the scene, police found bloodstains and evidence of gunfire.

DCP Gautam citing preliminary investigation said that five rounds were fired at the victims.

News agency ANI reported citing the police that the shooting stemmed from a long-standing personal dispute.
