Delhi Lt Governor orders FIR against water board on embezzling 20 Cr
text_fieldsNew Delhi: On an alleged embezzling of Rs 20 crore in water bills, the Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena (LG) ordered to file a case against officials of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), a bank and a private company, PTI reported citing sources from Saxena's office.
So far, no reaction has been reported from the Delhi administration or the DJB.
Sources said that the alleged fraud first came to light in 2019, stating that Rs 20 crore was gathered in water bills from consumers but not deposited in the DJB bank account. It was found that the amount was deposited in a private bank account, instead, Asian News International (ANI) reported, citing a statement.
Further, even after the allegations, the contract with the company, which collected the amount in cash and cheques, was extended.
According to ANI, DJB extended the contract after the fraud was detected in 2019, and this was when Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was the chairman of DJB.
The LG ordered the Chief Secretary to give instructions to file an FIR in the issue against the officials working under the entities mentioned after identifying them, the sources informed. The LG also added the officials to recover the amount at the earliest.
Finally, LG Saxena also sought a report on the action taken in the matter within 15 days.
