Delhi excise policy case: ED arrests AAP MP Sanjay Singh
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Sanjay Singh, an AAP MP, was taken into custody on Wednesday in connection with a money laundering case. He was arrested following the ED officials' home raids in connection with the excise policy case.
Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, claimed earlier today that the ED raids on AAP leader Sanjay Singh's home demonstrated that the BJP was using desperate methods as it prepares to lose the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
There will be a lot of these raids, but nothing to be alarmed about said the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the New Indian Express reported.
MP Sanjay Singh said in a letter to Finance Secretary T V Somanathan earlier this month that the ED Director and Assistant Director purposefully and without grounds linked his name to the alleged liquor scam, destroying his public image and defaming him.
Singh stated that statements made by Dinesh Arora led to the addition of his name.
Singh further claimed that the officers' abuse of their authority damaged his reputation and called for their prosecution. He claimed to have already given the officers legal notice that they must publicly and openly apologise.
The AAP has strongly denied the claim that the Delhi government's excise policy for 2021–2022, which granted licences to liquor traders, promoted cartelization and benefited some dealers who had reportedly paid bribes for it.
The policy was soon abandoned, and the lieutenant governor of Delhi suggested a CBI investigation. The ED then filed a complaint under the PMLA.
