Delhi blast: Lal Quila metro station fully reopens

New Delhi: All four entry and exit gates at Lal Quila (Red Fort) Metro Station have reopened, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) confirmed on Sunday, restoring full access for commuters nearly a week after the November 10 car blast outside the facility.
The station had been closed “due to security reasons” following the explosion of a white Hyundai i20 near Gate No. 1 on Netaji Subhash Marg, which killed at least 12 people and injured nearly two dozen. Two gates were reopened on Saturday before the full resumption.
Investigators later identified the driver as Dr Umar Mohammad, also known as Umar Un Nabi, a medical professional from Al-Falah University in Faridabad. The incident occurred hours after police in Faridabad seized 2,900 kg of explosives, including ammonium nitrate, from a site about 50 km from Delhi.
According to officials, Mohammad allegedly triggered the blast after the arrest of two associates, Dr Muzammil Shakeel and Dr Adil Rather, linked to the same network. Police subsequently detained another Al-Falah University doctor, Dr Shaheen, in connection with the case.
Authorities have described the group as a “white-collar terror module” involving trained medical professionals with links to Jammu and Kashmir. Security was tightened across nearby markets in the aftermath, with multiple agencies including the Special Cell and National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducting extensive examinations and collecting more than 40 samples from the site.
Investigations remain ongoing.
