NEW DELHI: About 55 per cent of IndiGo's domestic flights were delayed on Saturday as a significant number of cabin crew members took sick leave. Industry sources said, that a large majority of them had gone for an Air India recruitment drive.

When DGCA chief Arun Kumar was asked about this matter, he said, "We are looking into this."

On Saturday, phase- 2 of the recruitment drive for Air India was conducted in which according to sources a large number of IndiGo's cabin crew members attended.

Operating around 1,600 flights daily in the domestic and international sectors, IndiGo is India's largest airline. They have not responded to a request for a statement yet.

According to the Civil Aviation Ministry's website, on Saturday 45.2 per cent of IndiGo's domestic flights operated on time.

In comparison, the on-time performances of Air India, SpiceJet, Vistara, Go First and AirAsia India on Saturday were 77.1 per cent, 80.4 per cent, 86.3 per cent, 88 per cent and 92.3 per cent respectively.

After winning the bid for Air India on October 8 last year, Tata Group took control of Air India on January 27.

Air India has launched a recruitment drive for new cabin crew members as it plans to buy new aircraft and improve services.
