The administration of the Jagannath Temple in Puri has called for swift action after cracks were discovered in the temple's outer boundary wall, the Meghannath Prachari.

Arabinda K Padhee, Chief Administrator of the Jagannath Temple, expressed concern and reported that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is responsible for overseeing the temple's restoration and preservation efforts.

Padhee highlighted that the temple administration has noticed several cracks on the Meghannath Prachari over recent months. “ASI has been handling restoration, repair, and conservation for the Jagannath Temple. We observed some cracks on the Meghannath Prachari, and we’ve already initiated preliminary repairs,” he said, referring to measures taken to remove moss, algae, and address water seepage in affected areas.

In addition to the wall repairs, Padhee acknowledged drainage issues at the Ananda Bajar site, which are being actively addressed. He also urged ASI to conduct a thorough and scientific survey of the wall to ensure the temple’s long-term structural integrity, emphasizing the importance of preserving this sacred site.

Jagandas Mohapatra, a priest at the temple, added his voice to the call for prompt restoration, noting, "This is one of the oldest temples, and cracks have developed on the boundary wall. We have requested ASI to restore it as soon as possible.”

The temple administration has pledged full cooperation with ASI to carry out the necessary repairs, prioritizing the structural safety and longevity of the centuries-old temple.
