In an effort to expand the nationwide vaccination campaign in the country, the Centre has decided to make both public and private Covid-19 Vaccination Centres (CVCs) operational on gazette holidays. Following detailed deliberation with states and UTs on March 31st to use CVCs to increase the pace and coverage of Covid vaccination, the central government on Thursday wrote to states and UTs asking them to make all necessary arrangements for the CVCs to keep working throughout April.

The Centre had already decided to begin vaccinations for those over 45 from April 1st as per the recommendations of NEGVAC or National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration. As of now, 6.51 crore doses of corona vaccines have been administered in the country from the onset of the inoculation exercise on January 16th.
