New Delhi: India recorded 14,092 new Covid-19 cases yesterday which took the tally to 4,42,53,464. Active cases have decreased to 1,16,861.

After 41 people succumbed to the infection, the death toll reached 5,27,037. 12 deaths were reported in Kerala.

Yesterday, West Bengal recorded 461 cases, 3 deaths, and 706 recoveries. Telangana noted a dip in new cases with only 440 being recorded. Hyderabad district has the highest number of infections with 195 new cases.

Delhi has reported 2,031 new cases, 9 deaths, and 2,260 recoveries. Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital Medical Director Dr Suresh Kumar said Omicron sub-variant BA 2.75 is the dominant variant in Delhi.

"We did a study where we wanted to know which sub-variant has the highest transmission. We analysed data from 90 samples in August and found that more than half of the patients were infected with BA 2.75. It is the leading cause of transmission and it spreads faster," he told ANI.

Karnataka recorded 1,329 new cases and five related deaths. Jammu and Kashmir has 622 new Covid-19 cases. Gujarat reported 565 new cases, 3 deaths, and 891 recoveries.

Haryana has recorded 20,000 cases and 23 fatalities in the past month. NCR districts are the worst hit. Gurugram recorded the most number of cases and Faridabad has also seen a jump.

The active cases comprise 0.26% of the total infections. A decrease of 2,403 cases has been recorded in the active caseload in a span of 24 hours. The national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.54%, the ministry said.

Congress chief Sonia Gandhi tested positive for Covid-19 again on Saturday. She will remain in isolation as per government protocol," tweeted Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh. National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has also tested positive. The 85-year-old MP from Srinagar is isolated at home. He has mild symptoms and is recovering.
