Amidst the rising number of covid cases in the state, Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa on Friday extended the ongoing statewide lockdown till June 7. The lockdown, which started on May 10, was expected to end on May 24.

"We have taken some decisions regarding the lockdown after discussing them with our senior Ministers, Chief Secretary and other officials. Heeding to the suggestions of experts, we have decided to extend the stringent restriction from May 24 to June 7," the Chief Minister said.

Karnataka recorded 32,218 new cases and 352 covid deaths on Friday, taking the total number of active cases in the state to 5,14,238 and deaths to 24,207. According to the revised guidelines, there will be no bar on the interstate or intrastate movement of persons or goods.
