COVID-19: India records 6,987 fresh cases, 162 deaths in 24 hrs

As per the Union ministry of health and family welfare, India registered 6,987 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. With 162 new deaths recorded, the toll has reached 4,79,682.

The Omicron infection tally in the country presently stands at 422, spread across 17 states. Of this, 130 have been discharged.

On a positive note, 7,091 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative tally of recovery to 3,42,30,354. India's recovery rate currently stands at 98.40 per cent, the highest since March 2020.

The present active caseload of 76,766 constitutes 0.22 of the country's total positive cases. This is the lowest since March 2020. The weekly positivity rate is 0.62 per cent and the daily positivity rate is 0.74 per cent.

On the vaccination front, 32,90,766 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours. With this, India's Covid inoculation coverage reached 141.37 crores as of Sunday morning.

However, as per the health ministry, over 17.90 crore balance and unutilised Covid vaccine doses are still available with states and union territories.
