COVID-19: India records 6,358 fresh cases, 293 deaths in 24 hours
text_fieldsThe Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday that 6,358 fresh Covid cases have been reported in the last 24 hours. With 293 new deaths being reported, the death toll due to infection in the country has increased to 4,80,290.
Meanwhile, Omicron cases in the country have also been on the rise. 653 cases have been reported thus far, spread across 21 states.
On a positive note, 6,459 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, increasing the cumulative tally to 3,42,43,945. India's recovery rate currently stands at 98.4 per cent, the highest since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020.
The active caseload in the country is presently at 75,456. Active cases account for 0.22 per cent of the country's total positive cases. The daily positivity rate stands at 0.61 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 0.64 per cent.
On the vaccination front, 72,87,547 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours. As of Tuesday morning, India's inoculation coverage had reached 142.47 crores. Over 16.8 crore balance and unutilised vaccine doses are still available with states and UTs, the ministry said.
