New Delhi: An argument between a couple on board caused a Wednesday Lufthansa flight that was scheduled to arrive in Bangkok to be rerouted to Delhi, according to reports. After taking off from Munich, the pilots had to make an emergency landing at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport on Wednesday morning due to unruly passengers, which they reported to air traffic control, NDTV reported.

According to reports, there was a loud altercation on board due to an argument between a German man and his Thai wife. The wife also asked the pilot for assistance, saying her husband's actions had "threatened" her.

Not long after that Lufthansa aircraft LH772 requested permission to touch down at IGI. The plane had initially requested permission to land at an airport in Pakistan, but that request was denied. According to authorities at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the husband was removed from the aircraft and handed over to airport security once the flight touched down.

Security personnel are speaking with the German embassy on the incident, and the individual has apologised to the airport authorities, they said. Both the paramilitary CISF and Delhi police are still on the spot. Whether the individual is sent back to Germany or turned over to Indian security services is yet to be decided.

According to additional sources, the Lufthansa aircraft would depart for Thailand after its tyres cool off.
