Continuing heavy rains in Mumbai causes heavy waterlogging, chaos

Mumbai: Several streets in Mumbai are witnessing flood-like situation in the continuing rains over the last several hours with people are wading through waist-deep waters alongside slow moving vehicles.
Heavy rains began pouring down over Mumbai and surrounding areas last evening causing waterlogging, hitting traffic and train services, NDTV reported.
Between 1 am and 7 am on Monday, some areas in the city have recorded over 300 mm of rainfall within six hours.
MCMCR Powai reported heavy downpour in the last 24 hours recording over 315 mm of rainfall.

All government, private and municipal schools and colleges have been shut across the city.
The heavy rains have hit train services from waterlogging at several railways stations with people waiting for trains on submerged tracks in Dombivli station.
Railwastations in Worli, Buntara Bhavan, in Kurla East, King's Circle area of Mumbai, Dadar and Vidyavihar Railway Station are facing waterlogging.
The suburban local train services in Mumbai and neighbouring Thane, Palghar and Raigad are vital means of connectivity for over 30 lakh commuters every day.
After soil covered tracks between Atgaon and Thansit stations, authorities declared it unsafe for plying services.
Subsequently, train services between between Kasara and Titwala stations in Thane district were suspended.
Authorities hope that waterlogging will subside if rains stop for a couple of hours; however, weather office warned of heavy rains through the day.

Meanwhile, it is reported that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescued 49 people from a flooded resort in Maharashtra's Thane alongside 16 villagers in Palghar.
