Congress projects unity between Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlot in Rajasthan
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The Congress announced that Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot have decided to work together. The decision comes after a four-hour meeting.
A meeting was called to discuss their ongoing rivalry with Rahul Gandhi and party chief Mallikarjun Kharge. "Both leaders have unanimously decided to work together and left the decision on the high command," said KC Venugopal. Details or division of responsibilities for the upcoming election have not been revealed yet.
Sources said that the meeting was an effort to find a middle ground between the two leaders, reported NDTV.
The rift between the two major leaders of Rajasthan has been a sore point for Congress in the past three years. With the assembly election coming up later this year, the party is in desperate need of repairing its image.
Pilot has been constantly criticising Gehlot's cabinet for not taking action against corruption. He has also been asking that the party look into the alleged paper leak scam that took place during the BJP rule. He also declared to hold agitation across the state if no action is taken by the end of the month.
"Four and a half years have been completed but the promises made have not been fulfilled and action has not been taken on the allegations. I went on a fast in Jaipur, but when nothing happened from that, I felt that now I will have to go among the public and I took out the Jan Sangharsh Yatra," he said.
