New Delhi: A case has been registered against local Congress leader Deepak Singh for making derogatory remarks against Union Minister Smriti Irani, including referring to her as "Pakistani."

The case was initiated in response to a formal complaint filed by BJP leader Keshav Singh. Superintendent of Police, Ilamaran, confirmed the registration of the case in the Gauriganj police station area.

The controversy unfolded during a two-day dharna organized by Deepak Singh to protest against the suspension of the license of Sanjay Gandhi Hospital. The dharna concluded on Wednesday evening with a candle march.

It was during this protest that Deepak Singh made the contentious comments about Smriti Irani. A video capturing these remarks quickly went viral on social media platforms.

Party sources have indicated that a decision regarding the continuation of the dharna outside the office of the chief medical officer will be made after the Allahabad High Court's hearing on October 3 regarding the suspension of the hospital's license.

However, the dharna by employees and doctors of Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, protesting the suspension, remained ongoing as of Thursday.

Sanjay Gandhi Employees Union president Sanjay Singh expressed the union's trust in the judicial system but emphasized that the dharna would persist until the hospital resumes its operations.

The closure of the hospital, resulting from the suspension of its license on September 17, has caused significant inconvenience to residents of Amethi and neighbouring districts.

The suspension of the hospital's license came after the deterioration of a patient's condition. The patient, a woman who had undergone a minor operation at the hospital, experienced health complications on September 14.

She was subsequently transferred to a private hospital in Lucknow, where she passed away on September 16. The woman's husband has alleged that her death was caused by an overdose of anaesthesia administered at the Amethi hospital.
