text_fieldsNew Delhi: The Karnataka Congress released the third list of 43 candidates for the Assembly polls on Saturday. It fielded former BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Laxman Savadi from the Athani assembly seat.
However, instead of fielding former chief minister Siddaramaiah from the Kolar assembly constituency, it fielded Kothur G Manjunath from the seat, PTI reported.
Siddaramaiah, who was already fielded from the Varuna constituency, was seeking to contest from Kolar as a second seat for him. Varuna was represented by his son earlier.
From the Kumta seat, the party fielded former Governor Margaret Alva's son Nivedit Alva.
So far, the party has named their candidates for 209 seats, including 124 seats in the first list and another 42 seats in the second list. It has to announce candidates for 15 more seats.
Savadi, who had resigned from primary membership from BJP after being denied a ticket, joined Congress on Friday. Savadi, a Lingayat leader from the Belagavi district of Karnataka, resigned from the Legislative Council and the BJP on Friday.
"From today onwards, I have no connection with the BJP. I will be a devoted and loyal worker of the Congress, just as I was in the BJP for 20 to 25 years," he had said.
The state Congress released the first list of 124 candidates on March 25. It included Siddaramaiah and party state chief DK Sivakumar. The second list of 42 candidates was released on April 6.
