Bengaluru: A complaint has been lodged at the Cubbon Park police station in Bangalore against author and chairman of the Karnataka Textbook Review Committee Rohith Chakrathirtha by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader BT Naganna.

According to the complainant, Rohit Chakratirtha had allegedly insulted the regional anthem of Karnataka.

He further states that, "The regional anthem 'Bharata Jananiya Tanujaate Jaya he Karnataak maate', written by Kuvempu, who is regarded as the greatest Kannada poet of the country has been distorted."

Meanwhile, KPCC President DK Shivakumar appealed to all educationists and think tanks to speak out against the government's attempt to overthrow the education system. He criticized the BJP government in Karnataka for 'politicizing the education system with right-wing agendas', India Today reported.

The BJP government had meanwhile decided to extend its support to Rohith Chakrathirtha. B.C. Nagesh, the Education Minister defended him saying that the local song was distorted by someone else and Rohith Chakrathirtha simply shared the post. Writers and Kannada activists have warned the government that it will face repercussions if te revised syllabus is not scrapped, and action is not taken against the textbook committee chairman.
