'Coin should be Rs 60’s; Savarkar’s British pension': P Khera mocks
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Slamming the Union government for issuing a commemorative postage stamp and coin highlighting the claimed contributions of RSS towards the nation, Congress leader Pawan Khera mocked the Centre that it must have issued a Rs 60 coin, which was what VD Savarkar received as pension from the British regime. The stamp that should be issued is one for the British Post, through which Savarkar used to send mercy petitions.
Aiming a strong jibe at the Centre as well as the RSS, while remembering the Father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his birth anniversary, Khera wrote on X, "If they had to issue a coin for RSS, they should have made it for Rs 60, which is how much pension Savarkar used to get from the British government. If they had to issue a postage stamp, they should have done one for the British Post, through which they used to send mercy petitions.”
Khera said that people will throw out the RSS-BJP ideology like a “fly from milk”, once the party goes out of power, Asian News International reported.
He said that no matter how much the BJP and RSS try to elevate Godse and insult Gandhiji, the Congress reminded that the country was, is and will always be Gandhiji's. Pawan Khera added that the world's knowledge of India was and will continue to be from Gandhiji.
“No matter how many stamps you print, coins you issue, or how much you insert RSS into the curriculum - this country was Gandhi's, is Gandhi's, and will remain Gandhi's," Khera wrote on X.
Khera questioned the announcement of including RSS in the curriculum of Delhi schools. He wondered whether the planned lessons based on RSS would include the Hindutva leader MS Golwalkar first introducing the two-nation theory, another RSS leader Shyama Prasad Mukherjee demanding suppression of the Quit India movement, and his participation in the British government, like the Muslim League, RSS's opposition to the tricolour flag and the number of cases it faced, etc.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday released a specially designed commemorative postage stamp and a silver coin to mark the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), highlighting the organisation's contribution to the nation.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister explained the significance of the commemorative coin.
"In the Rs 100 coin, on one side is the National Emblem and on the other side, Bharat Mata's Varada Mudra image along with that of a lion and Swayamsevak bowing down to her with all dedication. This is the first time in the history of Independent India that an image of Bharat Mata has been shown on our currency," he said.
The coin issued on the occasion is of pure silver with a denomination of Rs 100. Alongside the coin, a special postage stamp commemorating '100 Years of the RSS' was also launched.
