CJM refuses 'unjustified' police custody for Goswami
text_fieldsChief Judicial Magistrate Sunaina S Pingale refused to hand over Arnab Goswami to police custody, citing that there was no clear evidence to link him to the deaths of Anvay and Kumud Naik.
Regarding the suicide abetment case, CJM Pingale said: ""A new investigation has been initiated on a report that is already summarized (closure report has been filed). However, no permission was sought for this new investigation. No court order has been obtained for such further investigation."
She also noted that there was a lack of evidence provided by the prosecution and police that would directly link Goswami to the suicides, further stating that police custody was unnecessary since no "direct link" had been established.
The court also rejected claims of police mistreatment during the arrest by Arnab Goswami, stating that there was no evidence to prove the same after a medical checkup.
