Chennai: Gold worth crores, precisely thirty-two kg, was reportedly looted from a Chennai bank on Saturday evening. A trio wearing masks allegedly locked the bank employees in a toilet and robbed the establishment, FedBank Gold Loan, in Chennai's Arumbakkam area, NDTV reported.

Police Commissioner Shanker Jeewal informed that the robbers took the keys to the strong room and locked the employees in the toilet, and escaped with the gold in carrying bags. The bank authorities told him that 32 kg of gold had been stolen.

He said that police have suspicions that the robbery could be an inside job. Joint Commissioner of Police, TS Anbu, told NDTV that one of them is suspected to be a present employee of the branch.

Though the exact worth of the stolen gold is not figured out yet, it will be clear after the inventory is completed, which is being gone on.

Meanwhile, in a video, a security guard of the establishment states that the robbers served him drinks, and he became unconscious. However, NDTV says that they have not verified the information yet.

A police official responded that all the employees were fine and none were unconscious. Since one of the group was an employee, the guard didn't suspect anything, the official added.

The bank was closed on Saturday, but some employees were present regarding some accounts work.

Police informed that they had formed special teams to catch the robbers.
