New Delhi: Inside the Delhi civic body house, chaos broke out on Friday evening between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and BJp councillors. Both factions entered into a physical offensive against each other, engaging in fistfights, punches and pushing each other, The Indian Express reported.

The chaos broke out after Mayor Shelly Oberoi declared that one vote was invalid in the poll to the six-member Standing Committee. The said committee has executive powers.

According to AAP, BJP councillors got agitated and initiated an attack after they became aware that they were going to lose the poll. However, BJP claimed that AAP started the ruckus.

In the polls, 242 out of 250 members cast their votes, but the counting was interrupted when the Mayor declared one vote invalid, and BJP raised objections.

Mayor kept on her stance that the invalid vote would not be counted. Then BJP and AAP members raised slogans against each other and started the fight. Mayor Oberoi was reportedly shoved amid the chaos.

According to PTI, BJP claimed that Mayor made one vote invalid to stop BJP when the party was about to win three out of six seats in the committee. BJP also claimed that AAP started the fight so as to win four out of six seats.

The Standing Committee polls started hours after the Oberoi was elected as Mayor on Wednesday evening. Even then, there was a ruckus happened inside the house with fighting, and flinging water bottles, among other things etc.
