Chant Sundarkand to give birth to sanskari, deshbhakt babies: Telangana Gov launches RSS campaign
text_fieldsTelangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Sunday launched the 'Garbha Sanskar' program saying said that pregnant women should chant the Sundarkand from Valmiki's Ramayana to give birth to ‘sanskari and deshbhakt’ (cultured and nationalistic) kids.
Soundararajan who is also a gynaecologist and fetal therapist, made these remarks while launching the campaign which was organised by Samvardhinee Nyas, a women's organization affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
The RSS campaign urges women to study religious texts like Bhagavad Gita and Ramayana, chant Sanskrit mantras and practice yoga to raise ‘sanskari and deshbhakt’ (cultured and nationalistic) kids.
The program is set to be launched across the country and will be endorsed by doctors associated with the RSS affiliate. An eight-member central team has been constituted to oversee the implementation of the program.
According to a Nyas functionary, the country has been categorised into five regions with a team of 10 doctors each from ayurvedic, homoeopathy and allopathy disciplines as well as a 'subject expert, who will be assigned 20 pregnant women from their respective areas.
According to the initiative, parents who recite Sanskrit chants and read religious scriptures during the nine months of pregnancy will positively impact the development of the baby’s brain in the womb.
"Positive vibrations reach the baby in the womb with chanting of Sanskrit shlokas," the report added. This is to ensure that values and culture are inculcated in the womb itself.
The doctors associated with the organisation will provide expectant mothers with a blend of "scientific and traditional" prescriptions to give birth to babies who are expected to turn out as well mentally and physically.
According to sources, the prescriptions by the doctors include activities like reading religious texts like the Bhagavad Gita, chanting Sanskrit mantras, and practicing yoga. It is designed to be followed from pre-conception to delivery and even up to the baby's second year. The program also offers guidance to the family members of expectant mothers.
During the virtual launch event, Soundararajan commended the efforts of Samvardhinee Nyas in developing the initiative and expressed her belief that this "scientific and holistic approach" to pregnancy would yield positive results.
She said, "“In villages, we have seen expectant mothers reading Ramayana, Mahabharata and other epics as well as good stories. Particularly in Tamil Nadu, there is a belief that pregnant ladies should learn Sunderkandam of Kamba Ramayana.”
As per information, Sunderkand is a chapter in the Hindu epic, Ramayana, that illustrates the adventures of Lord Hanuman and his selflessness, strength, and devotion to Lord Rama.
Soundararajan, who also serves as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, highlighted that while the scientific approach focuses on preventing complications during pregnancy, a holistic approach can contribute to the birth of healthy and sound babies.
She further stated that practicing yoga during pregnancy promotes the physical and mental well-being of both the expectant mother and the baby, ultimately aiding in a normal delivery. Soundararajan also emphasised the importance of motherhood and the 'Garbha Sanskar' program.
Leena Gahane, co-head of the intellectual wing of the Rashtra Sevika Samiti, expressed her appreciation for the launch of the 'Garbha Sanskar' module on the occasion of the 350th death anniversary of Jijabai ji, who is also known as Rajmata - Shivaji Maharaj's mother.
She expressed hope that the implementation of the program would help nurture the next generation with qualities similar to Shivaji Maharaj, the renowned founder of the Maratha Empire.
