New Delhi: N Chandrababu Naidu, a former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and the leader of the TDP petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn the FIR that APCID had filed against him in connection with the multi-million dollar AP State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) fraud. He appealed the Andhra Pradesh High Court's decision to uphold the FIR and the judgement dated September 10, 2023, of his judicial remand by petitioning the Supreme Court on Saturday.

The TDP chief asserted in his petition that all acts were taken without first getting the approval required by Section 17A of the PC Act and that as a result, he was unlawfully detained and deprived of his liberty. The High Court declared that it could not hold a mini-trial on a petition filed under Section 482 of the CrPC (quash petition), noting that the argument was without merit, the New Indian Express reported.

Justice K Sreenivasa Reddy noted in the 68-page ruling that the APCID, which registered a case in 2021, had interviewed more than 140 witnesses and gathered more than 4,000 case-related documents. The judge decided that at this point when the investigation is poised to reach its conclusion, this court is not disposed to interfere with the impugned procedures. The ACB special court granted the APCID two days of detention of the former CM for questioning in relation to the APSSDC scam after dismissing Naidu's quash petition.
