New Delhi: The Union government provided Y-plus security cover of CRPF commandos to at least 15 Shiv Sena rebel MLAs on Sunday, PTI reported.

The MLAs who received the security cover include Ramesh Bornare, Mangesh Kudalkar, Sanjay Shirsat, Latabai Sonawane, Prakas Surve and ten others.

Officials informed that the mentioned MLAs' families living in Maharastra would also receive protection through house protection teams. They said that central security agencies recommended the Ministry of Home Affairs for the security cover for legislatures, pointing out the potential security threat faced by their families due to the current political situation in the state and the ministry sanctioned the same.

They added that around four to five Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) commandos would guard each of the rebels in shifts.

PTI reports that a majority of Shiv Sena MLAs are camping in Guwahati, supporting minister Eknath Shinde, weakening the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra as well as sending CM Uddhav Thackeray to the crisis.

On Saturday, Maharastra Legislature Secretariat had sent the 16 MLAs, including Shinde, summons and sought written replies on complaints seeking their disqualification. The party's national executive has authorised Uddhav Thackeray to take action against the rebel MLAs.
