Centre likely to take action against Twitter after ‘Manipur video’ went viral

New Delhi: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is getting social media platforms to stop further circulation of the video of ‘women paraded naked’ in Manipur.
The government, according to NDTV, may act against Twitter after the video went viral on Wednesday.
A large number of people across the nation took to social media to protest against the inhuman act.
The IT ministry wanted social media to comply with new IT rules that stresses freedom of expression with ‘reasonable restrictions’.
The government warned against circulating videos that ‘could lead to problems in law and order’.
NDTV reported citing sources that authorities issued an order as part of initiating action against Twitter over non-compliance last night.
The shocking video of two women being paraded naked and molested by a mob appeared a few hours ago.
The women were then dragged to a field where they were allegedly gang-raped later.
The women were tortured on May 4, a day after two tribal groups Meiteis and Kukis began clashing over Meitei’s demand for Scheduled Tribes ( ST) status.
Over 120 have been died in the violence which displaced thousands and many are still in relief camps.
Police on Thursday morning arrested one of the accused who was seen in the video that went viral.
A senior police officer was quoted as saying on Wednesday that they identified the men involved in the incident, and would arrest them shortly.
The two rape survivors reported the incident to the police some 15 days after it was happened.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh ordered an investigation into the incident.
