text_fieldsKolkata: The CBI showed up at the residence of Anubrata Mondal, a close aide of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, on Thursday morning and arrested him in a 2020 cattle smuggling case.
Sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation came along by a convoy of 30 cars to pick up TMC's Birbhum district president from his stronghold, Birbhum, according to India Today.
Before detaining him, Anubrata Mondal was questioned for more than one-and-a-half hours, just as a massive crowd formed outside his house.
He will undergo a medical examination soon and be produced at the Asansol court later in the day.
Only days before TMC leader Partha Chatterjee was arrested in the teacher job scam.
Before his arrest on Thursday, Mondal was summoned for 10 times by CBI which he dodged citing health issues.
The CBI had previously quizzed him twice into the cattle smuggling case as Mondal's name emerged after CBI registered an FIR in 2020.
The border security forces, according to CBI, seized over 20,000 cattle heads being smuggled across the border between 2015 and 2017.
