New Delhi: Yoga guru and Patanjali Ayurved co-founder Baba Ramdev claimed on Saturday that post the Covid-19, the number of cancer cases surged, PTI reported.

He was talking to an audience on Goa's Miramar beach, where his Patanjali Yog Samiti is conducting a three-day yoga camp. He made the curious observation on the stage, which was shared by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

He said, "Cancer has increased a lot. The cases of this disease have gone up after the COVID-19 pandemic. People have lost their eyesight, their sense of hearing….."

"It is a dream of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi that India should be a global centre of wellness. It is also my dream that Goa should be a centre of wellness," he added.

According to Ramdev, Goa is not just a place of tourist interest. He said that visitors could get treatment for blood pressure, sugar, thyroid, Cancer and many more. Goa must become the hub of Yoga, Ayurveda, 'Sanatan' and spirituality, he said.

He said, "During two months when the number of tourists is less (in the state), we can promote spiritual tourism. People from across the world will come here."

He asked the hotel industry to bring 'panchakarma' into their establishments and introduce Yoga to the tourists staying with them. 'Panchkarma' is a five-step detoxification therapy in Ayurveda.

"Goa should not be a den of eating and drinking. Life is not just about eating, drinking and dying," he said.

CM Sawant lauded Ramdev and his team, which conducted research in the field of Yoga and naturopathy. The state government will back all the efforts to transform Goa into a 'yog bhoomi' by all means.

After the event, the yoga guru hit Miramar beach in the morning hours to perform yoga asanas.

The event was organised in the early hours, and after the event, Ramdev hit the beach to perform Yoga asanas on a specially-made platform there, PTI reports.

He took a short run later on the beach, and CM Sawant accompanied him.

Later the yoga guru performed puja of a 'Shivling' made on the beach out of the sand.
