BSP chief Mayawati on Sunday said that she is hopeful the Brahmin community will not vote for the BJP in the next Assembly polls. She further accused the BJP of "misleading" the people.

Mayawati has started the BSP's campaign for the next assembly elections scheduled for 2022. In an attempt to connect with the Brahmin community, she will be holding a "Brahmin Sammelan" on July 23 in Ayodhya. The campaign will be led by BSP General Secretary SC Mishra, reported NDTV.

She said that the Brahmin community regretted the votes they gave to the BJP in the last elections. She warned that the ruling party would again make attempts to mislead the people once they begin campaigning for state polls.

The BSP will ensure the interests of the Brahmin community when it comes to power in Uttar Pradesh, she said. She added that BSP is confident that the Brahmin community will support her, as they did in 2007.

Her statement comes amid reports that the community feels sidelined by the Yogi Adityanath government.

She added that the Brahmin community should support BSP like the Dalit community has, despite the "money power" of Congress and BJP. She noted that the BJP had used "other methods" to influence the Dalit community, but they have remained loyal to her.

Mayawati accused both BJP and Congress of making false promises and using media to influence the Dalit community. "The good thing is that Dalits have not been misled by these fake promises. Though we lost the last assembly election, the vote percentage from the Dalit community has been intact. It has not even gone to the Samajwadi party," said the BSP chief.
