Brahmin Girl Marries Dalit MLA, Bride's Father Files Abduction Case
text_fieldsA Brahmin priest in TamilNadu's Kallakurichi has filed a habeas corpus petition in the Madras High Court against a 35-year-old Dalit AIADMK MLA A Prabhu accusing him of abducting and marrying his 19-year-old daughter.
S. Swaminathan, a temple priest in Tamil Nadu, filed the petition against Kallakurichi's AIADMK MLA, claiming that he has seized and coercively tied knot with his daughter Soundarya who recently attained the legal age for marriage in India, resulting in an inter-caste love marriage.
Regarding the same, Swaminathan has been reported in attempting suicide by dousing himself in petroleum, with a self-immolation threat, after knowing the couple has got married in front of Prabhu's residence on Monday, with the groom's family's aid. And the girl's father has been hospitalized following the very same events.
19-year-old Soundarya's family was against the inter-caste affair with the middle-aged Prabhu, reflecting on which Prabhu shared with the media that "My family and I had approached Soundarya's family for the marriage but Swaminathan (the bride's father) was against it."
The local police has intervened and manipulated the situation, arresting Prabhu and pressing charges on him for 'luring' Swaminathan's daughter into the MLA's love trap. Contrary to her father's claims, Soundarya further adds that she and her husband had been in love for the past 4-6 months and had not been threatened or forced in any manner to marry the local legislator.
The Madras High Court bench will hear the case on Wednesday.
