Elgar Parishad case: Bombay HC seeks Prof Hany Babu's health status
text_fieldsMumbai: The Bombay High Court has directed to submit the health report of Delhi University associate professor Hany Babu to a private hospital in Mumbai where he is undergoing treatment after being implicated in the Elgar Parishad case by the NIA.
A division bench of Justice S S Shinde and Justice N J Jamadar was hearing a petition by Hany Babu's wife Jenny Rowenna seeking the release of Hany on bail under health grounds.
Last month, the court had extended his stay at the hospital till further orders as the then medical report indicated a swelling in his optic nerve which required an MRI scan and other tests.
However, Advocate Payoshi Roy representing the petitioner has informed the Court that Babu has "largely recovered" from his eye ailment following two-month treatment at Breach Candy Hospital.
He also said that there is only a" little swelling" left in the corner of an eye which can be cured with antibiotics, as per the doctors.
Hany Babu was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) last July. He was admitted to the government-run J J Hospital in the city and later moved to GT Hospital as he tested positive for Coronavirus.
As per the High Court's May 19 order, he was transferred to Breach Candy Hospital on the condition that the charges for treatment at a private hospital would be borne by Babu's family.
The bench has now directed the private hospital to submit a report in a sealed envelope before the next hearing.
The HC will consider the plea next on August 6.
