New Delhi: Anupam Hazra, a prominent leader of the BJP in West Bengal, has been removed from the party post of the national secretary for deviating from ‘the party line’.

The decision, reportedly taken by JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, has to do with Hazra’s statements triggering controversies, according to NDTV.

Hazra , who crossed over to the BJP after being elected from Bolpur on a Trinamool Congress ticket in 2014 from Bolpur, was seen as the party’s Scheduled Caste face.

Alongside the senior post in 2020, he was made the party's co-incharge of Bihar.

However, controversies stemming from Anupam Hazra’s statements over the last months have landed the party in troubles.

In September, Hazra called for ‘corrupt’ leaders of Trinamool Congress, expecting CBI or ED summons, to contact him to join the BJP.

Following Trinamool’s ‘washing machine’ allegation against the BJP, the leadership distanced from Hazra’s comment.

‘You can go to my Facebook page and contact me. If you feel shy to come forward and talk about joining the BJP, you can get in touch with me and tell me your wish. We will see how your services can be used for the party,’Hazra was quoted as saying in viral video.
