New Delhi: The road ahead for the Congress party has become more challenging, said the party Chief Sonia Gandhi, pointing out the miserable defeat the party witnessed in the recently held Assembly elections.
She said that the Assembly election results were equally 'shocking and painful' that the days ahead will be testing for the party to determine its dedication, determination, and spirit of resilience.
Gandhi, without referring to the remarks of the G 23 leaders or rumblings in several state units, said she was determined to ensure unity in the party.
Addressing the general body of the Congress Parliamentary Party, Sonia Gandhi said she is bound to bring unity in the party.
"I am very well aware of how disappointed you are at the recent election results. They have been both shocking and painful. The CWC has met once to review our performance. I have met with other colleagues too. I have received many suggestions on how to strengthen our organization. Many are pertinent, and I am working on them," she said in a statement.
She also expressed her concern over the increasing polarisation in society and the BJP government's back-breaking economic policies. Given the situation, the revival of the party is imperative not just for its members but for the democracy and society as well.
"It is for us all to stand up and confront these forces of hate and prejudice. We will not allow them to damage the bonds of amity and harmony that have sustained and enriched our diverse society for centuries" she said.
