BJPs code of law Manusmriti, not Constitution: Rahul Gandhi slams

New Delhi: Quoting RSS stalwart VD Sawarkar on his controversial remarks on the Indian Constitution, Rahul Gandhi slammed the BJP on Saturday in a Parliament debate commemorating 75 years of the adoption of the Constitution. Rahul reminded that Sacarkar, who has been the idealogue of BJP and RSS, had said that he preferred Manusmriti over the Constitution since there is nothing Indian about the latter. Savarkar had said that Manusmriti is the most “worshipable” for Hindus after the Vedas, Rahul said.

Pointing out that BJP claims that they are defending the Constitution, Rahul asked if that is the truth and if BJP stands with Savarkar’s words. He said that if the BJP speaks of protecting the Constitution, the party is abusing and ridiculing Savarkar.

He further said that the Constitution is a document of modern India, and it could never have been written without ancient India and her ideas.

Rahul then asserted that even today, the BJP's code of law is Manusmriti, not the Constitution. If you criticize Savarkar, you will be made a criminal. The BJP is trying to take the country backwards.

Later, Rahul likened current economic and social inequalities in India to the story of Ealalvya, who was forced to sacrifice his thumb for guru Dronacharya. He said that when BJP gave Dharavi to Adani, it chopped off the thumb of the small and medium businesses there. He accused the Centre of neglecting farmers, which is currently happening outside Delhi. He said that the administration is attacking farmers using tear gas shells. When farmers ask for fair prices, the BJP-led Centre cuts their thumb.
