Lucknow: BJP’s youth wing leader in UP‘s Firozabad is in trouble after police found that the gun belonging to him was used in attacking a 20-year-old man days before.

The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) district president Ankit Tiwari’s gun was allegedly used by two assailants to shoot and injure the victim, Manvendra alias Monu.

Following which the police have filed an FIR against the 32-year-old leader under Section 30 of the Arms Act (punishment for contravention of licence or rule) at the Matsena police station.

However, the BJP’s Firozabad district president Satish Divakar ruled out Tiwari having any involvement in the attack.

Manvendra was attacked on the afternoon of Diwali when he went to a nursing college where his father was a chowkidar.

When he was at the college, two men arriving on a motorcycle opened fire on him.

Manvendra, who sustained injury on his back, was rushed to a hospital where is now receiving treatment.

Later police arrested local residents Sumit Kumar and Sanjay in connection with the attack and filed an FIR charging them with attempt to murder.

The duo admitted to having used the licensed gun belonging to Tiwari to attack Manvendra.

It is also found that the victim and Sumit had a dispute over the former’s love affair, so they decided to shoot him.

The probe revealed Tiwari had allegedly handed over his licenced revolver to Bijendra Yadav, father of accused Sumit.

Firozabad Superintendent of Police, Saurabh Dixit said that Tiwari could not yet be linked directly to the attack.

However, he has been held accountable for negligence of the gun’s safekeeping after it was found used in the crime.

‘Tiwari’s role in the firing has not been found, but a case of negligence has been registered for failing to keep his weapon securely. We are further examining the matter and will consider recommending cancellation of his firearm licence,’ Dixit reportedly said.

BJP’s Firozabad district president Divakar claimed that Tiwari had been dragged into the case ‘unfairly’, adding ‘He made the mistake of trusting people who misused his faith and property’.
