BJP TN leader Annamalai’s press meet sinks in chaos, Press Club condemns
text_fieldsChennai: Tamil Nadu BJP leader K Annamalai called a section of journalists attending his press conference as ‘agenda driven”, causing chaotic scenes on Wednesday.
Some of the journalists attending the press conference at party office were reportedly heckled by BJP functionaries, The Indian Express reported.
Annamalai was taking questions from reporters of Tamil TV channels and English language newspapers on internal issues in the BJP when the interaction turned sour.
The young leader asked journalists to name the media outlet they belong to before him responding to their questions.
He lambasted a reporter of Tamil TV channel when a question regarding the death of a 34-year-old woman at a Yoga centre in Alandurai in Coimbatore was put to him.
Alongside calling a section of journalists ‘agenda driven’ he said he did not ask them to cover his press conference, inviting criticism.
The Chennai Press Club condemned Annamalai for disrespecting and threatening the reporters.
Asking him to change his ways, the Press Club said it is not healthy for the leader to spread lies about the ethics of a journalist.
Condemning the incident, Sriperumbudur Congress MLA Selvaperunthagai urged the media to boycott Annamalai if he continues to disrespect them.
