New Delhi: In the morning the Grand Old party was in jubilation as the early trends showed the Congress making a return to power in Haryana.

But things went belly up in the next few hours with the BJP surging as of 10.39 in 48 seats in the state’s 90 Assembly constituencies. The Congress is now leading in 35 seats.

The count is yet too close to call considering the surprising outcome in results.

The BJP's sudden turnaround comes even as exit polls predicted that the Congress will win return to power after ten years winning 55 seats.

The early trends showed the Congress crossing hallway mark of 45 seats.

The Congress workers were in jubilation at the party headquarters in New Delhi following the early favourable trend.

However, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini claimed that that the BJP would return to power in Haryana for the third time.

In 2029 assembly polls, the BJP bagged 40 seats leaving the Congress in 31 and the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) 10.

The saffron party formed the government availing the support of the JJP and the post-poll alliance ended after Saini became the chief minister.

Where the BJP won all the seats in Haryana in 2019 Lok Sabha polls, it managed only five of the 10 seats in the last polls.

The Assembly polls were crucial for the party to showcase that it is still popular in the state.
