Malda: In West Bengal’s Malda district, BJP worker was hacked and shot dead by unidentified assailants on Wednesday evening, triggering clashes that left at least six people injured.

Samir Ghosh, aged 35, was attacked with sharp weapons and shot twice in the Ramkeli area, according to police reports. The violence escalated into clashes between two groups, with the injured taken to Malda Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Local residents alleged that people linked to a rival political party were behind Ghosh’s killing. However, police have not established the motive, and no arrests have been made as of Thursday.

A large police contingent was deployed in the area to prevent further violence. Officials said the situation remained under control amid tensions following the killing.

The incident comes around a month after another clash in Malda’s Naldubi area left five BJP workers injured. Police arrested 12 people in connection with that confrontation, including Trinamool Congress (TMC) panchayat member Ripon Burman and members of his family.

The earlier clash reportedly stemmed from a longstanding dispute linked to a panchayat election. BJP leaders accused Burman and his supporters of attacking party workers, while Burman denied the allegations and claimed he had been falsely implicated.
