Veteran politician and Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi disclosed on Wednesday that he has been battling cancer for the past six months, expressing regret over his inability to participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The 72-year-old, who held the position of Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar during two significant tenures – from 2005 to 2013 and again from 2017 to 2020 – disclosed his health condition in a heartfelt message shared on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).

In the post script in Hindi, Modi expressed his realization that the time had come to share his health struggle with the public.

A prominent figure who emerged from the JP (Jayaprakash Narayan) Movement of 1974-75, Sushil Kumar Modi held considerable stature within Bihar's political landscape. His roots trace back to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, highlighting his extensive involvement in political activism since the 1980s.

Having shared his health condition with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sushil Kumar Modi reiterated his unwavering dedication to serving the nation, the state of Bihar, and his political party.
