Mumbai: In an attempt to murder case, BJP MLA Nitesh Rane, son of Union minister Narayan Rane, surrendered at a court in Maharastra on Wednesday and was remanded in police custody till February 4, PTI reported. He had cancelled his bail plea at the Bombay High Court earlier that day.

On Tuesday, Sindhudurg district and additional sessions judge RB Rote had rejected Rane's bail application citing that it was premature and not maintainable. It added that his custodial interrogation is necessary since the probe into the case against him has not been completed. The case is about an alleged attack on Shiv Sena activist Santosh Parab during a district cooperative bank elections campaign.

Rane alleged that the case was out of political rivalry, and he was being targeted by Shiv Sena, who is in the ruling coalition of Maharashtra.

Appearing for Rane, lawyer Satish Maneshinde told Justice C V Bhadang of the high court his intention to withdraw the bail application. He told the court that Rane wishes to surrender and join the investigation despite the Supreme Court granting five more days from arrest.

Nitesh Rane's pre-arrest bail pleas had been rejected by both the lower court and the High Court earlier.

The lower court and High Court rejected Rane's anticipatory bail pleas. He approached Supreme Court, which directed the police not to arrest him for ten days on January 27 but directed Rane to appear before Sindhudurg court and get regular bail.
