New Delhi: A Delhi court has sentenced Bihar BJP MLA Raju Kumar Singh to four years' imprisonment in connection with the 2018 celebratory firing case that claimed the life of Archana Gupta during a function at a farmhouse in South Delhi. The sentence was pronounced by Special Judge Vishal Gogne after finding the legislator guilty in the case.

The court also directed Singh to pay Rs 25 lakh as compensation to the victim's husband, providing financial relief to the family that lost a loved one in the incident.

The case stemmed from celebratory gunfire during a gathering, when a bullet fatally struck Archana Gupta. While awarding the sentence, the court underscored the grave risks associated with the unlawful use of firearms during celebrations, noting that such reckless acts can have irreversible consequences.

The verdict comes after a prolonged legal battle and is being seen as a measure of justice for the victim's family. The court's observations highlighted how a moment of negligence and irresponsible use of a weapon during festivities resulted in the loss of a life and permanently altered a family's future.

The ruling also serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by celebratory firing, a practice that has repeatedly resulted in deaths and serious injuries across the country. More details related to the case are expected to emerge in the coming days.
