BJP leader demands ASI survey in Mosques in Karnataka
text_fieldsBengaluru: Mosques in the Vijayapura district of Karnataka were made over Hindu temples, a BJP MLA surfaced with controversy, days after another BJP leader's threat to demolish a Karnataka mosque. MLA Basanagouda Yatnal demanded on Sunday a survey by the Archeological Survey of India (ASI), India Today reported.
Yatnal's comments come days after BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde claimed that the Bhatkal Mosque in the Uttara Kannada district will be destroyed by the Hindu society like the Babri Masjid was torn down.
According to Yartnal, he had written the ASI demanding a survey in Vijayapura mosques. He said that there was a Jain Temple, a Narasimha temple and a Shiva temple, and in the district, there were many Hindu architectures.
"We are not exaggerating. There was Nandi, pictures of Hindus, and lotus flowers, all integral to the Hindu culture." Yatnal was quoted. He added that if ASI gives a positive response, he will go to court.
On Sunday, a case was registered against Anant Kumar Hegde under Section 153(A) (Promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion, race, place of birth, and residence) following his controversial remarks.
He had said that the destruction of Bhatkal Mosque was guaranteed the same as that of Babri Masjid. It is not his decision but the Hindu society's, he had claimed.
